House of Commons stands to applaud Ukrainian ambassador

At the beginning of prime minister’s questions, the House of Commons stood to applause the Ukrainian ambassador, who was present in the chamber.

This follows Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in recent days.

The speaker of the House Sir Linsey Hoyle said that while clapping is generally disallowed in the House, the House “quite rightly want to show respect to Ukraine and its people”.
