Oral Questions: Peter Bone on the impartiality of the Electoral Commission
During oral questions, Conservative MP for Wellingborough Peter Bone asked Christian Mathewson, a member of the Speaker’s Committee on the Electoral Commission, for an “assessment of the impartiality in the Electoral Commission”.
Mathewson told the House that “there is confidence in the current chair” and that “he understands the challenges”. He then made an amusing defence to Only Fools and Horses, telling Bone that he should look at the Speaker’s Commission “a bit like Trigger looked at his broom”.
This follows reports of the former Speaker of the House of Commons “being mean and unfair to a number of people in parliament”.
