Richard Ratcliffe ‘set the bar high for all husbands’

Foreign secretary LIz Truss confirmed in a statement that British nationals, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori, were allowed to board a place to the UK after being “unfairly” detained in Iranian prison for five years and six years respectively.

One MP who had particularly been prominent in campaigning for Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s release, Tulip Siddiq, thanked all of those involved. She made a light-hearted comment that attracted laugher on all sides of the House when she said that Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s husband, Richard, had “set the bar high for all husbands”. 

This was followed by an emotional moment where Siddiq told Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s daughter “mummy really is coming home”.
