Ashworth criticises Sunak over Spring Statement
Jonathan Ashworth has condemned Rishi Sunak’s Spring Statement, claiming the chancellor’s plans will push an extra 500,000 children into poverty.
Labour’s shadow secretary for work and pensions raised a point of order in the House of Commons about analysis of the government’s economic plan which suggests that 1.3 million people could be pushed into absolute poverty.
Ashworth asked: “Should we assume that rising child and pensioner poverty for this government is considered a price worth paying?”
