Kwarteng avoids promising energy intensive industry support extension 

During business questions,  BEIS secretary Kwasi Kwarteng and Sahdow BEIS secretary Jonathan Reynolds clashed on support for energy intensive industry support, with Kwarteng unable to commit to extending the support scheme in light of energy price rises.

Reynolds highlighted that Kwarteng had said that it was a “priority to ensure costs are managed and supplies of energy are maintained”, and questioned the lack of “action” in last week’s spring statement.

While he didn’t commit to extending the support scheme, Kwarteng did explain that he is “constantly engaging with the Treasury to see how best to use existing schemes to support”.
