Minister insists the government is ‘minimising bureaucratic foot-dragging’ in Homes for Ukraine scheme
In response to an urgent question, housing and communities minister Eddie Hughes insisted to the House of Commons that the government is “minimising bureaucratic foot-dragging” in the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
Opposing MPs told the minister that “there remain real concerns amongst councils” as well as anti-trafficking charities being worried that the Homes for Ukraine scheme is a potential “Tinder for sex traffickers”.
Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse asked Hughes when the government will recognise that “it needs to bring government officials to the Ukraine border” rather than the job being “left to private entities”. This was a suggestion that Hughes described “inappropriate” as the government should focus on the administrative element.
