Spencer: ‘Inappropriate Rayner remarks broke no rules’

Mark Spencer has claimed that the Mail of Sunday article about Angela Rayner was “inappropriate” but broke no rules in relation to parliament.

Giving evidence to the standards committee, the Leader of the House said that although he argued the comments made about Rayner should be “condemned”, he was adamant no parliamentary rules were broken.

Spencer said: “I don’t suppose they’ve broken any rule in the House or committed a crime that could be charged in general society.

“I think they’ve just acted frankly in an inappropriate way, and that should be roundly condemned.”
