BA and Unite return to talks

Beleaguered airline British Airways negotiators are returning to the negotiating table today for the latest round of talks with the Unite union.
After 22 days of industrial action by BA cabin crew the dispute over cost-cutting remains unresolved.
Last month Unite members voted to reject a BA settlement, which would have seen existing cabin crew staff keep their employment entitlements while the terms and conditions for new started changed.
The union refused to endorse the deal because it did not reinstate travel perks for those who had participated in earlier strikes. It was rejected but, as BA pointed out, 73% of staff did not reject the offer.
“The result shows that Unite does not have a clear mandate and we would urge them to come back to the table to sign the agreement and end the dispute,” the airline said at the time.
Those talks begin today. Conciliation service Acas is reportedly chairing the talks.
