Clegg £700 out of pocket from donations

Nick Clegg has been left £700 out of pocket when he paid for a parliamentary researcher, his bank account shows.
Responding to newspaper allegations he had received donations into his personal account for personal use, the Liberal Democrat leader published his bank statements.
The accounts show donations from three businessmen totalled £19,690 and were used to pay for staff costs of £20,437.30 out of the same account.
These figures reveal Mr Clegg actually paid £747.30 out of his own money towards staff costs.
The unusual arrangement let Lib Dem donors pay £750 a month into Mr Clegg’s personal account between March 2006 and January 2008.
Mr Clegg said: “Any suggestion I did anything wrong is out of order.”
The leader also referenced newspaper reports that compared his popularity to Churchill one week before another accused him of a Nazi slur on Britain.
He added: “I must be the only politician who’s gone from being Churchill to being a Nazi in under a week.”
