Cameron in trouble for “twat” gaffe
By Alex Stevenson
David Cameron has seized the silly season news agenda by using the word “twat” on live radio.
The Conservative leader risked losing the votes of Middle England with his inappropriate use of what may or may not be a swearword. According to Ofcom it is.
Speaking in an interview on Absolute Radio, he said: “I’m not on Twitter. I think that politicians do have to think about what we say. And the trouble with Twitter is the instantness of it. Too many twits might make a twat.”
Mr Cameron appeared to have failed to grasp the gravity of his sins for he made a further gaffe later in the programme.
When asked about MPs’ expenses, he said: The public are rightly, I think, pissed off – sorry, I can’t say that in the morning – angry with politicians.”
According to Absolute Radio a conversation between Mr Cameron and his press officer followed in which the latter berated Mr Cameron for his use of both words.
Regardless of their conversation the Tory leader was in penitent mode later on today.
“You always have to be careful what you say. If I’ve caused any offence I obviously regret that,” he said on Sky News.
The only complaint to have been received over “twatgate” at Absolute Radio, according to its website, was received from an email contributor referred to as “gbrown1099”.
