Five year delay in child violence cases
Revelations of 5 year delays in human rights cases, some of which include violence towards children, were met with anger by MPs and lords on the Joint Select Committee on Human Rights today.
The report released today criticised the government for not doing enough to comply with court judgements which concern human rights violations.
Andrew Dismore, chair of the committee said: “The government has failed to respond with decisive action to prevent repeat violations arising.
“Providing an effective, speedy and transparent response to the decisions of the courts must be part of the government’s commitment to bring rights home,” he added.
The report was the committee’s second assessment of law, policy and practice in the UK which infringe on rights protected by the Human Rights Act.
The government was criticised for not acting on the first report produced over a year ago.
