Burnham calls for ‘reformed’ FA
Sport secretary Andy Burnham has called for the FA to be reformed so it can rein in “out of control” football investment.
Mr Burnham was speaking out in support of Fifa president Sepp Blatter, who launched a broadside against the current state of club ownership last night.
Mr Blatter voiced concern at the current climate of club ownership, where investors buy and leave clubs “like you would sell a shirt”, citing the example of former Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra who sold up to the Abu Dhabi United Group earlier this season.
“We need a strong and reformed FA who is responsible from grass roots level to the England team,” Mr Burnham said.
“They are the people who need to regulate the game in the interests of everybody.
“It is important that the supporters know what the person’s intentions are for that club and they understand the traditions and the issues around the wider health of the game,” he added.
