Mickey Brady was first elected as the Sinn Fein MP for Newry & Armagh in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 9,287. The constituency of Newry & Armagh borders the Irish Republic and has been held by either the nationalist SDLP or Sinn Fein ever since 1986.
Like other Sinn Fein MPs, Brady does not take up his seat in Westminster.
Mickey Brady has been a member of the Legislative Assembly of Northern Ireland for Newry and Armagh since 2007. He has served as the Sinn Fein spokesperson on welfare and older people.
He is a former welfare rights officer.
Brady was born in 1950 in Newry. He is said to enjoy the sport of hurling.
