Seema Malhotra was first elected as the Labour MP for Feltham & Heston in a 2011 by election, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 7,859.
The constituency of Feltham and Heston is located on the Western outskirts of London in the Borough of Hounslow. Some two fifths of the electorate are of Asian descent, with many local people employed at the nearby Heathrow airport. Feltham Young Offenders Institution is also found within this constituency.
Malhotra was appointed as Shadow Minister for Employment in 2020.
She served as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury between 2015 and 2016, before resigning in 2016. She supported Owen Smith in his leadership challenge to Jeremy Corbyn.
Malhotra is a former Chair of the Fabian Society. She supported Keir Starmer in the 2020 Labour leadership election.
She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Future of Aviation, and unlike many London MPs, has supported the expansion of Heathrow airport.
Born in 1972, Malhotra grew up above her family shop, and was educated at Warwick, and later Aston University. After university she was employed as a management consultant at Accenture and PriceWaterhouseCoopers, working in strategy and IT systems development.
Seema Malhotra is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Entrepreneurship, Mortgage Prisoners, and Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on India, Nepal, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Business Owners.
