Philp, Chris

The constituency of Croydon South is found in the far south of Greater London just inside the M25, covering the communities of Coulsdon and Purley.  Although this seat contains a number of council tower blocks on the Waddon estate in the north, this constituency arguably has more in common with Surrey than the other Croydon seats, particularly amongst its communities that live along the North Downs.  This an affluent suburban area packed with London bound commuters.  It is a safe Conservative seat where the Conservatives polled close to 50% of the vote even during the Labour landslide years of Tony Blair.

Chris Philp was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in September 2021.  He was formerly Under Secretary of State at the Home Office and Ministry of Justice between 2019 and 2021.
