Michael Tomlinson was first elected as the Conservative MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 14,898.
The constituency of Mid Dorset and North Poole contains the the Merley housing estate, Broadstone and Canford Heath from the town of Poole, before spreading north into the Dorset countryside. Outside of Poole, it includes the small town of Wareham at the furthest end of Poole Harbour, the market town of Wimborne Minster in the Purbeck Hills, and the villages of Bere Regis and Corfe Mullen.
This seat was held by the Liberal Democrats between 2001 and 2015. However with the Lib Dem vote here crashing from 45% in 2010 to a static level of around 29% in the last three General Elections, this now appears more of a relatively safe Conservative seat.
Tomlinson was appointed a Government Whip in 2020.
Born in 1977, Tomlinson was educated at Hereford Cathedral School, and Kings College, London. He worked as a barrister before being elected to Parliament.
He supported Leave in the 2016 Brexit referendum and was formerly the Deputy Chairman of the European Research Group of Conservative MPs.
He supported Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
Tomlinson supports prison reform and is interested in prison rehabilitation.
Tomlinson once played Minor County Cricket for Herefordshire. Alongside cricket he also still plays hockey. He is married with three children, and employs his wife as a Principal Secretary.
