Tracey Crouch was first elected as the Conservative MP for Chatham and Aylesford in 2010, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 18,540.
The constituency of Chatham and Aylesford is a densely populated seat in northern Kent. It contains the old dockyard town of Chatham, and spreads inland along the River Medway to include the settlements of Larkfield, Snodland, Aylesford and Ditton. It is a long standing marginal constituency that backed Labour between 1997 and 2010, but which has solidly supported the Conservatives ever since. Some 64% of the electorate here backed Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.
Crouch served as the Under Secretary of State for Sport, Civil Society and Loneliness between 2015 and 2018 before resigning over the issue of fixed odds betting terminals.
Born in 1975, Tracey grew up and was educated in Kent. She studied Law at Hull University, before working as a Parliamentary researcher and then in public affairs for Aviva.
Crouch has one child and was previously the first Conservative Minister to take maternity leave. She was treated for Breast Cancer in 2020.
Crouch is an animal welfare campaigner who is opposed to fox hunting and badger culling. She has never revealed how she voted on Brexit. On the moderate wing of the Conservative Party, she abstained in the tuition fees vote during the coalition government.
She backed Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
Tracey Crouch is the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Animal Welfare; and Women’s Football. She is the Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Angling; Compassionate Politics; Dark Skies; Football; Football Supporters; Mindfulness; Motorsport; Wellbeing economics; and American Football.
According to the Register of Members Interests, she is Independent Non-Executive Director of British Racing’s Horse Welfare Board., and a non-executive director (unpaid) of Parkour UK, the national governing body for Parkour and free running.
Crouch is a qualified football coach. She is a Tottenham fan.
