Andrew Rosindell has been the Conservative Member of Parliament for Romford since 2001, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 17,893.
The constituency of Romford is located on the outer north eastern edges of Greater London and contains the communities of Romford, Gidea Park, and Collier Row in the London Borough of Havering. Romford is well known for it snooker clubs where a number of leading players such as Steve Davis honed their trade.
Although Romford is a traditional Conservative seat, where many of the population participated in the Thatcher government’s Right to Buy Scheme, the seat was held by Labour between 1997 and 2001. In 2019, the Conservatives won here comfortably though with close to 65% of the vote. In contrast to many other areas of London, a massive 69% of voters backed Brexit here in the 2016 EU Referendum.
Rosindell was born in Romford in 1966. He went to school locally at Rise Park and Marshalls Park. Andrew previously served as a councillor in Romford for eleven years, representing Chase Cross & Havering-atte-Bower between 1990 and 2002.
Rosindell is a member of the St. Edward The Confessor Church in Romford Market Place. He is a member of the Conservative Christian Fellowship.
Andrew Rosindell is positioned on the right of the Conservative Party and was a strong supporter of leaving the European Union in the 2016 referendum. He consistently opposed to Theresa May’s Brexit withdrawal agreement.
Rosindell is now one of just a few MPs who supports the return of the death penalty.
He backed Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
Having previously stood for the Glasgow Provan seat in 1992 accompanied by his pit bull dog, who was dressed in a union jack outfit, Rosindell sees himself as a staunch patriot. He is interested in flags and heraldry.
Andrew Rosindell is Chair of more All Party Parliamentary Groups than any other MP.
He is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Australia and New Zealand; the British Overseas Territories; Canada; the Caribbean; Central America; Chagos (British Indian Ocean Territory); the Channel Islands; the Commonwealth; the Isle of Man; Liechtenstein; Montserrat; Norfolk Island; Pacific Islands; Pitcairn Islands; San Marino; Switzerland; Flags and Heraldry; Greyhounds; Historic Counties; Philately; the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee; St George’s Day; and Zoos and Aquariums.
