Sarah Atherton is the Conservative MP for Wrexham, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019 with a majority of 2,131.
The Wrexham constituency is found within the Welsh County of Clwyd and covers Wrexham, alongside the villages of Gwersyllt and Llay. Wrexham is the fourth largest settlement in Wales and the largest in north Wales. Wrexham had been won by the Labour Party at every General Election since 1935, before being gained by the Conservatives in 2019.
Atherton is PPS to the Secretary of State for Wales, Simon Hart.
Born in 1967, Sarah Atherton left school at 16 joining the army and serving in the Intelligence Corps. Interested in defence, she is currently a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Veterans and the Armed Forces Covenant.
In 2020 Atherton called for the armed forces to assist in efforts in the channel to stop migrants crossing the channel.
After leaving the army, Atherton became a nurse and a social worker. The register of Members Interests still shows her to be a registered nurse, and a registered social worker.
Atherton also ran her own business, a micro-brewery, based on the Wrexham Industrial Estate, before being elected to Parliament.
Atherton is the first ever woman Conservative MP in Wales.
