Ian Levy is the Conservative MP for Blyth Valley, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019, gaining the seat off Labour with a majority of 712.
Blyth Valley is found to the south of the county of Northumberland and covers the towns of Blyth and Cramlington, as well as the Seaton Valley. Once an area strong in mining and ship building, Blyth had been held by Labour ever since the seat was created in 1950. A so called ‘Red Wall’ seat, and the first Conservative gain in the 2019 General Election, it provided the first real indication of the size of the ensuing Conservative majority.
Born in 1966, Levy worked as in the NHS as a mental health nursing assistant for almost thirty years.
Levy started work as a grave digger after leaving school. Levy stood unsuccessfully for Blyth Valley in the 2017 General Election.
He was awarded the Newcomer of the Year award at the Spectator’s Parliamentarian of the Year Awards, in 2020. He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Left Behind Neighbourhoods.
