Having studied history and economics at Oxford University, Laura Trott the politician, worked as a management consultant at Booz and Company.
She grew up close to Sevenoaks, in the nearby village of Oxted, where the Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer also spent his childhood, some years before.
Transferring to politics, Trott worked as a Special Advisor in the Cabinet Office between 2010 and 2012, and then served in the Number 10 Policy Unit under David Cameron. She was said to have been heavily involved in the writing of the Conservative Party’s 2015 election manifesto.
She later served as David Cameron’s Director of Strategic Communication. Awarded an MBE in his resignation honours list, she then moved to work for Portland Communications in 2017.
She is married with three young children, and an ambassador for the Sutton Trust.
Since being elected to Westminster, she has presented a Bill looking to restrict access to botulinum toxin and filler cosmetic products to those who are under 18.
During the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election, Trott suggested to the BBC Newsnight programme that a Boris Johnson victory would lead to an early General Election that Jeremy Corbyn would win. These comments may not have helped Trott’s current prospects for a ministerial promotion.
