Lord Ashcroft
A ruling from information commissioner Christopher Graham has given the Cabinet Office 35 days to end secrecy over Lord Ashcroft’s residency status.
The Tory deputy chairman is a major donor to the party but his residency status remains mysterious despite pledges made ten years ago, when he was given his peerages.
Labour MP Gordon Prentice has battled for three years to get the information.
The ruling criticised the Tories reticence in revealing the information saying: “Statements by senior politicians concerning Lord Ashcroft’s undertaking have been evasive and obfuscatory and have served to compound this speculation.”
