Top ten gaffes of 2013: 10 – Ed ‘RIP’ Miliband
Kicking off our top ten is the leader of the opposition. Ed has had a pretty good year when it comes to avoiding putting his foot in it, and this effort following the resignation of Sir Alex Ferguson from Manchester United was hardly a headslap moment. It was more a sad shake of the head, often the way with the Labour leader – an opportunity to be statesmanlike, gone ever so slightly wrong.
Proud man. Great manager. Staunch Labour Party supporter. Sir Alex Ferguson will never be forgotten.

This was sensitive, touching, and sounded exactly like he thought Fergie had passed away. As everyone on Twitter immediately noticed.
He hasn't died has he?! @Ed_Miliband No. Just checked. He's fine. Ergo. What an odd tweet.
