Tories launch online campaign
While Labour are rejecting claims of an imminent election announcement as “nonsense”, the Conservatives have launched a new ad campaign.
The initiative is officially designed to build momentum going into the Conservative party conference in Blackpool, rather than a soft launch of an election campaign.
In contrast to past campaigns it is featured solely online, with the slogan It’s Time For A Change set to be plastered over social networking sites such as Facebook as well as mainstream newspaper adverts.
Nine separate adverts highlighting issues from fairer trade to tax benefits for married couples will feature on fifteen sites over the next five days.
The Conservatives estimate up to 21 million viewers will be exposed to the adverts, which have been considerably cheaper than their previous billboard campaigns.
The banners will highlight Tory views on tax breaks for married couples, streaming in schools, NHS cuts, the EU constitution, tougher sentencing and police, an emergency pension fund, value for money in public services, taxation and fairer trade and aid.
Conservative party chairman, Caroline Spelman said: “This is a totally different approach to campaigning for a political party.
“By using this new type of campaigning to set out the Conservative Party’s vision in the run up to the conference season, David Cameron is demonstrating his fresh approach to politics.”
Mr Cameron is already an established presence on the internet with his WebCameron homepage.
Earlier this week, David Miliband promised to relaunch his blog, which has been neglected since his move to the Foreign Office.
