Brown hails UK-China green commitment
Gordon Brown has unveiled British plans for renewed cooperation with China on a wide range of environmental issues.
Speaking at a press conference in Shanghai on the second day of his official visit – his first since becoming prime minister – Mr Brown said Britain and China would “lead the world” on eco-towns and sustainable development.
“Over the next few years the development of this new higher level of environmental cooperation will have the support of the British government and I know from my discussions earlier today and yesterday the support of the Chinese government,” the prime minister said after a visit to UK-funded eco-project Dongtan.
Mr Brown, who has already praised the economic links between the UK and Beijing, is due to travel to India tomorrow when his visit to China concludes.
