More Labour losses in Wales
Flintshire and Blaenau Gwent are the latest unitary authorities to fall from control by Labour in Wales.
In the latter local party People’s Voice, which holds the Westminster seat, overturned Labour’s ten-seat advantage to establish an six-seat lead.
The council had been held by Labour in the 1995, 1999 and 2004 elections but was finally lost as People’s Voice completed its dominance of the region. It also holds the Welsh Assembly seat.
Labour put in another poor performance in Flintshire, losing 13 seats. They now hold just 22 out of the 70 up for election.
And in Monmouthshire the Conservatives strengthened their hold on power, taking five more seats to move to 29 councillors. Labour lost two while the Liberal Democrats gained two.
Ceredigion, controlled by Plaid Cymru, gained three seats to maintain their strong showing in the region.
