Funding boost for defence rehab centre
A government review has resulted in £24 million of funding for the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) main rehabilitation centre.
The Headley Court centre receives the increased resources following the outcome of a review commissioned by the armed forces’ surgeon general last year.
“Key enhancements” will be funded by the move, including the replacement of a temporary ward annex which will increase the number of beds for higher-dependency patients to 66 and an expanded prosthetics facility.
“Headley Court is globally renowned for delivering first-class rehabilitation treatment to troops with complex physical and mental injuries,” defence secretary Des Browne said.
“I want to ensure that reputation is retained and that is why I have announced £24 million of additional investment in the future of Headley Court.”
Headley Court, which is situated close to Epsom, offers beds for neurological inpatients and poly trauma and medical patients.
