Tories get 16-point lead

Labour has slipped further down the opinion polls, and now stands only three points ahead of the Liberal Democrats.
A ComRes poll for the Independent puts Labour on 25 per cent, down seven, while David Cameron’s Conservatives enjoyed a 16-point lead on 41 per cent.
Doubts remain over the Tory leader’s ability to deal with recession, however.
Only 35 per cent of people thought he had the skills to pull Britain out the downturn, while 45 per cent disagreed.
There was also evidence of increased anger at City bonuses, with 84 per cent calling for a legal limit on pay in banks bailed out with taxpayer cash.
Eighty-two per cent said senior executives in the same institutions should be forced to return bonuses they have received.
Meanwhile, a poll by YouGov for the Times put the Tories 12 points ahead on 44 per cent, although there was no severe drop in Labour support from its previous survey.
