A Labour peer involved in a fatal crash on the M1 has been jailed for 12 weeks after sentencing today.
Lord Ahmed had sent and received text messages minutes before the crash which saw him hit a stationary car on Christmas Day 2007 which killed the driver Martyn Gombar, 28.
The judge sentencing him at Sheffield Crown Court said the text messaging had finished at the time of the crash and had not been a factor in the accident.
Lord Ahmed, 51, admitted dangerous driving and was also banned from driving for a year.
