Boris Johnson to appear on Eastenders
By Liz Stephens
Mayor of London Boris Johnson will be making a guest appearance in the London TV soap Eastenders tonight.
Defending his decision to appear on the show this morning, Mr Johnson said: “The arts, culture and media sectors in this city generate about £9 billion worth, it is my job to promote them just as much as anything else.”
In the storyline of tonight’s episode, Mr Johnson ¿ who plays himself ¿ has an argument with pub landlady Peggy Mitchell over a lack of street cleaners in the area.
The mayor eventually wins her over.
Mr Johnson said it was a “tremendous honour” to appear on the show, describing the soap opera as “a true London icon”.
The mayor has made a number of recent forays in world of media of late, including appearing on the front cover of Elle magazine to promote London Fashion week.
He has previously appeared as a host on Have I Got News For You.
