PM forced to repay £12K expenses

The prime minister has been asked to repay £12,415 in expenses claims by Sir Thomas Legg.
Sir Thomas has sent out letters to hundreds of MPs today, telling them either that their claims were above board, or that more information is needed in their case, or to pay back money.
Both Gordon Brown and Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg have been asked to pay back money. David Cameron, Tory leader, is being asked to provide additional information.
A spokesman for the prime minister said Sir Thomas had calculated Mr Brown needed to pay back £12,415.10 in over-claimed allowances between 2004 and 2009.
The figure includes £10,716.60 for cleaning, £302.50 for gardening and £1,396 for painting and decorating.
The claims were within the rules but Sir Thomas has set retrospective annual limits on what he has decided should be claimed for services.
