Weekend polling has consolidated the impression that the Conservative lead over Labour is slipping even further.

A YouGov poll for the Sunday Times only gave the Tories a six-point lead, with the opposition on 39%, down one point, and Labour on 33%, up two points.

Meanwhile, a ComRes poll showed Tory support dropped two points in a week to 38%, with Labour up one to 30% and the Lib Dems down one to 20%.

There is sustained evidence of an improvement in Mr Brown’s personal ratings on the back of his interview with Piers Morgan, although later controversy over his alleged bullying of No 10 staff may halt any progress made.

The YouGov survey puts Mr Brown on minus 21, a huge improvement on his minus 50 score in the summer.

PoliticsHome research incorporating data from 20 weekly surveys found Mr Cameron’s lead in performance ratings had halved since September.

Interestingly, Mr Cameron’s personal ratings were falling quicker than those of the Conservative party as a whole.
