Mixed polls concern Tories

The Tories woke to discover mixed polls today, with one restoring a seven point lead and another still predicting a hung parliament.
A YouGov poll for the Sun saw the Tories rise two points to 39%, while Labour fell three points to 32%. The Lib Dems were unchanged on 17%.
But a ComRes poll for the Independent gave the Conservatives a more modest lead, with the Tories on 37%, Labour on 32% and the Lib Dems on 19%.
If replicated at the general election, the results would give Labour 17 more seats than the Tories, but leave Gordon Brown 32 seats short of a majority in a hung parliament.
The persistently poor poll results for the Tores led bookmakers William Hill to offer the shortest odds ona Labour victory since April 2009, at 8/1.
“The current political punters’ plunge on a shock Labour victory shows no signs of abating and has now virtually halved their odds within a month. Every new opinion poll sparks a further batch of bets,” said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
