General election 2010: Goldsworthy is latest Lib Dem casualty
By Catherine Stevenson
The Liberal Democrats have suffered another blow in the south-west after losing Camborne and Redruth to the Conservatives – by just 66 votes.
Tory candidate George Eustice took the seat with 37.6% of the vote. Julia Goldsworthy narrowly missed out, having taken 37.4% of the vote.
The seat was number 97 on the Conservatives’ target list and they secured it with a swing of 5.2% from the Lib Dems.
Mr Eustice is a former strawberry farmer, who directed the No campaign against the Euro and served as former press secretary to Michael Howard and David Cameron. In 1999 he ran as a Ukip candidate.
