General election 2010: Labour hold Eltham

Another crucial Labour hold in Eltham is being counted as a big victory for Gordon Brown, with every seat now critical to whether David Cameron can enter No 10.
The outer London seat of Eltham only saw a swing from Labour to the Conservatives of 1.8%, allowing Clive Efford to get home by 1,663 ahead of his Conservative rival David Gold, who gained 17,416 votes.
Eltham was 66th on the Conservatives’ hitlist of 117 seats, which they need to gain an overall majority of 326 seats.
Mr Efford will be delighted that he was able to buck the national trend which has seen the Conservatives pick up an extra 85 seats at the time of publication.
