General election 2010: Tories boot out Lembit Opik
By Matthew West
The Conservatives have taken the seat of Montgomeryshire, pushing out the Lib Dem candidate Lembit Opik.
Mr Opik has been a prominent MP, not always to everyone’s taste, and is the first big name politician to lose his seat.
The Conservatives would not have expected to have taken the seat but it appears the electorate have come out very much against their MP with a 13.2% swing from Lib Dem to Conservative.
The MP who has represented the seat since 1997 when he took over from Alex Carlile lost his seat to Glyn Davies.
Mr Opik has not yet commented on losing his seat.
