The St George’s flag will fly above Downing Street for the duration of the World Cup, David Cameron has confirmed.
Nadhim Zahawi, one of the new slate of Tory Mps, asked Mr Cameron if regulations and political correctness had prevented the flying of the flag during the World Cup.
Mr Cameron confirmed it would and that it would not cost the taxpayer a penny.
“The flag of St George will fly above Downing Street for the duration of the World Cup,” the prime minister said.
Mr Cameron then wished good luck to the squad and coach Fabio Capello before urging all sides of the House, including the Scottish and Welsh nationalists, to back England during the tournament, which starts on Friday.
England’s first game, against the United States, is on Saturday evening.
