Revealed: MPs’ x-rated tirades against Ipsa
By Ian Dunt
The full extent of MPs’ anger against the new expenses system has been revealed, complete with ‘Thick Of It’-style tirades against the Commons authorities.
A Freedom of Information (FoI) request by the Evening Standard concerning ten separate incidents revealed the extent of the anger MPs’ felt towards the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa).
One MP shouted: “This system is a f***ing abortion.”
Another MP reduced a member of staff to tears before emerging later with chocolates to apologise.
A female MP swore loudly at staff being saying: “I am going to murder someone today.”
Staff at Ipsa were variously described as “monkeys”, “nutty”, and “f***ing idiots”.
MPs have been left angry and resentful by the new expenses system, which they quickly branded inefficient and intrusive.
Officials for Ipsa say the incidents relate back to the early days of the new regime and that it now functions effectively.
