Cameron congratulates Miliband birth

David Cameron has added his congratulations on the birth of Ed Miliband’s second son last night.
The child, Mr Miliband’s second with partner Justine, weighed 8lb 3oz and was delivered at University College hospital in London.
In a statement, both parents said they were “overjoyed” at the birth, and “can’t wait to introduce the new arrival to his big brother Daniel”.
The prime minister responded to the news by telling Mr Miliband and his partner: “Samantha and I would like to send you both our heartfelt congratulations on the birth of your baby boy. This is wonderful news and we could not be more pleased for you and your family.”
Mr Miliband is not currently married to partner Justine, but revealed during the Labour party conference that the couple were planning to tie the knot.
They have not yet decided on a name for the baby.
The Labour leader added in a tweet: “Thanks for all the good wishes. He’s gorgeous. Mum and baby doing great.”
Meeting journalists outside the hospital this morning he added: “I know what name I want, but it’s still being signed off [by Justine].
“He looks a bit like me.”
The news is the second major political birth of the year, after David and Samantha Cameron welcomed their new daughter Florence to the world in September.
The birth does have some political implications, as Mr Miliband will now depart from Westminster to take two weeks paternity leave.
Deputy leader Harriet Harman will step in, meaning prime minister’s questions are set to be answered by Nick Clegg.
The deputy prime minister is currently under intense fire from Labour over the issues of tuition fees and housing benefit.
