Former Labour MP found guilty over expenses

Former Labour MP Jim Devine has been found guilty of making false expense claims at Southwark Crown Court.
He will become the first MP convicted by a jury in the wake of the expenses scandal.
Mr Devine denied three charges of false accounting – one for hygiene and cleaning, another for headed paper and a third for stationary.
He was elected in 2005 and stood down in 2010. He entered parliament following the death of former foreign secretary Robin Cook.
The Metropolitan Police said: “Given the number of outstanding trials and investigations relating to other MPs and Lords expenses, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
He will be sentenced at a later date.
Mr Devine was Parliamentary private secretary to the health minister Rosie Winterton before resigning over the decision to replace Trident.
