Blair ‘godfather to Murdoch’s daughter’

Tony Blair's office was the subject of a torrent of questions today after reports emerged he was Rupert Murdoch's daughter's godfather.
If true, the extraordinary revelation would be music to Conservative ears, allowing them to argue convincingly that all political parties were equally guilty of backstage alliances with the media mogul.
Wendi Deng, Mr Murdoch's wife, is reported to have admitted that Mr Blair is godfather to the second youngest of the couple's six children in next month's edition of Vogue.
The magazine reports that Mr Blair attended the child's christening last year on the banks of the river Jordan, at the spot where Jesus is supposed to have undergone the same ceremony.
The article claims Mr Blair attended the ceremony "garbed in white".
There was confusion about the accuracy of the reports, however. When Hello! magazine reported the event it said Australian actors Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman were the godparents.
Repeated calls to Tony Blair's office from a variety of figures, including Labour MP and phone-hacking campaigner Tom Watson, had not led to a confirmation of the report at the time of publication.
