Cameron: Jimmy Carr tax arrangements ‘morally wrong’
David Cameron has branded Jimmy Carr's tax arrangements "morally wrong", following reports he only pays one per cent income tax.
The comedian was reported by the Times to use a Jersey-based tax avoidance scheme allowing him to save £3.3 million a year.
Mr Cameron added: "“This is completely wrong…putting all of that into some very dodgy tax avoiding scheme”.
He added: ""It's not fair and it's not right."
The prime minister's comments come amid growing public anger at tax avoidance.
During a gig last night a member of the audience shouted: "You don't pay tax".
Mr Carr replied: "I pay what I have to and not a penny more."
There were also claims that members of Take That, including Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen and their manager Jonathan Wild, also used tax avoidance schemes.
Chancellor George Osborne has previously branded the practise "morally repugnant", although critics say he has not done enough to stop it.
