In reaction to news reports about BP more than doubling its profits for the first three months of this year, amid soaring oil and gas prices, Greenpeace UK’s head of oil and gas, Rosie Rogers, said:
“BP have literally doubled their profits because of Russia’s increasingly deadly war in Ukraine. It’s like a sick game show, where as the death toll mounts, more money flows into BP coffers. All the while the bank balances of families in the UK are being stretched so thin it’s forcing millions into poverty. The government has to intervene. Just this weekend the Italian Prime Minister announced a windfall tax on bloated energy company profits to help vulnerable families, Boris Johnson must do the same.”
