Blackman calls for more fuel in the tank for UK’s smoke free by 2030 target
In a Westminster Hall speech, Conservative MP Bob Blackman called on the the government to find a “new source of funding” to aid the UK’s target to be smoke free by 2030.
Blackman told the House that if the government are going to “floor it” when it comes to public health prevention, “gas in the tank is what we are lacking right now”.
The Conservative MP pointed to a benefit of Brexit in that the government can “control profits” and “cap tobacco prices”, allowing a greater ability to raise money in taxes to fund the aims of the smoke free initiative.
