Channel 4: Government branded ‘shabby little bunch’ for ‘attack’ on public broadcasting
In an urgent question, shadow secretary Lucy Powell asked Digital, Media, Culture and Sport minister Julia Lopez for a statement on the sale of Channel 4.
Lopez explained that the sale is necessary because “it does not have the same financial flexibility” as the BBC or ITV.
There were fears across the House that this would impact the creative industry and will go against levelling up, with Barry Sheerman branding the government a “shabby little bunch” for its “attack on public broadcast services”.
