Debate on the Economic Crime Bill to stop ‘Putin and his band of thugs’
Home secretary Priti Patel laid out the much-awaited Economic Crime Bill to the House which will attempt to stop “Putin and his band of thugs”.
Patel also took the opportunity to tell the House that “the figures that are public” on the Ukrainian family scheme, a likely reference to reports that only 50 UK visas have been granted to Ukrainian refugees, “are absolutely inaccurate”.
An issue raised by multiple MPs, including Simon Clarke, was the concern for “bad actors in the House of Lords”, which may be enablers for oligarchs. Patel told the House that this bill would with authorities “greater power to identify and investigate allies of criminals”.
