Government ordered to give statement on future of broadcasting
In a point of order, Father of the House Sir Peter Bottomley asked the Speaker, Sir Lindsey Hoyle, for advice given that the government have not made a statement to the House regarding the future of broadcasting as had been promised on Wednesday.
Bottomley had been critical of the government’s decision to sell Channel 4 following an urgent question on the previous day.
The Speaker was encouraged on by the House to grant an urgent question but instead asked the government to make a statement on the “serious point”, and that it has until 12:20 to do so.
