Government hopes new laws will ‘drive out’ violence against women and girls
Under Secretary of State for the home department Rachel Maclean outlined, in her statement to the House, the “strengthening” of the law to “drive out” violence against women and girls.
The government have accepted all recommendations by an independent inspectorate. This includes making such offences “an absolute priority”, “strengthen legislation on domestic abuse and sexual offensives” and investing in programmes to “stamp out” domestic abuse before it escalates.
Maclean told the House that victims are “at the heart” of everything the government does, but the shadow minister Sarah Jones asked why the government has “waited until now”.
