Government questioned as UK food security concerns reach levels ‘not seen since world war two’
During DEFRA questions, SNP’s Deidre Brock told the House of Commons of LSE predictions that UK food security concerns are “on the verge” of levels “not seen since world war two”.
Brock asked secretary of state George Eustice what support packages for the framing industry were being considered.
Eustice confirmed that there would be a four nation meeting on the challenges faced by the sector, and explained that food prices “have always been governed by energy and exchange rates” rather than Brexit, which Brock had pointed to as a factor in the UK’s current food security crisis.
