While facing questions in the House of Commons regarding digital, culture, media and sport, the under-secretary of state, Nigel Huddleston, revealed that his department were targeting visiter numbers to reach pre-pandemic levels “a year faster than independent forecasts predict”.
This will come as good news, following the “severe impact” of coronavirus on the tourism industry that has needed £37 billion in financial support.
Huw Merman, the MP who asked the initial question, also pushed for Southern Rail to promote tourism in Sussex, which would both “provide a great boost” in passenger numbers and tourism, helping both industries.
